Downstairs Description

Downstairs there is a combined sitting and dining room which enjoys a wood burning stove to create that cosy atmosphere. In addition, the cottage benefits from a fully fitted, well equipped kitchen and a second WC.

First Floor Description

Wharf is a cosy cottage which sleeps three guests in two bedrooms. One room has a king-size bed and the other has a single bed. Upstairs is a spacious shower room with a mains-pressure shower.

Farm Experience: In 2012 we continued into the Higher Level Stewardship. In the last ten years our ground has been steadily reclaimed from over grown scrub to the more traditionally managed way of farming and we hope to continue in this way for the foreseeable future.

Tourist Attractions:
  • Calke Abbey: Preserved as acquired by the NT. Rise and decline of a large family estate, famous for its eccentric collection. Restaurant and café. Visit website
  • Sudbury Hall And Museum Of Childhood: This National Trust attraction provides two different experiences in the same place. Visit the showpiece 17th century Hall and see the spectacular designs and craftmanship. The museum of childhood gets all ages excited. Join in and become a Victorian pupil, a scullery maid, or just reminisce about your own childhood. Visit website
  • Newcastle Borough Museum And Gallery: A family friendly museum set in Brampton Park, less than a mile from the centre of Newcastle Under Lyme. This fascinating place has something for everyone. Visit website
  • Tamworth Castle: Explore 900 years of history at Tamworth Castle. Get hands-on with interactive displays and activities, like weapons handling or trying on some armour. See the permanent display of items from the world famous Staffordshire Hoard. Visit website
Eating and Drinking:
  • The Fox And Goose: Stiff but pleasant uphill walk, 3/4 mile (easy on the way home!) Fabulous views in the conservatory or on the patio. Dog friendly in bar Visit website
  • The Marquis Of Granby: Stiff uphill walk 1.5 miles (walking not recommended in the dark) Good food and beer, recently refurbished bar and restaurant, Sky Sports on in bar. Monday evening -pie night. Also offer a collection service for clients wishing to dine in their restaurant. Visit website
  • Thornbury Hall: 2 miles, Pakistani / Indian Rasoi restaurant in a Georgian manor house. Nice dining rooms, reasonable choice of beers and lagers, good service, reasonably priced. Visit website
Food Stores:
  • Village Butchers: There are other good, locally run butchers in Cheadle and Leek. Some even have their own farms and sell their own high quality products, but this doesn’t make them expensive. Visit website

Sporting Attractions and Activities:
  • Walking: We are building up a range of walks that leave from the door here at Foxtwood. Using a mapping app for smart phones, called View Ranger you can download my walks for free. We will also have them available at the cottages as a printed sheet. Visit website

  • Awesome Walls Climbing Stoke: Pre-book a taster session at England's largest bouldering centre and experience this fun, exhilarating and safe sport. There is a large viewing area, so if your don't want to participate you can relax and just watch. Visit website
