Although the property normally sleeps 8, smaller parties of 4 or 6 can enjoy the benefits of the spacious open plan living, kitchen & dining area by renting the Old Forge as either a 2 or 3 bed property at reduced rates out of High Season.
As its name suggests The Old Forge was once a busy working village forge. Built around 1855 and recently renovated, the property retains much of its historical character, while at the same time providing a modern, light & comfortable space, making it the perfect large Yorkshire Holiday House. The historic building has been sympathetically converted to the highest standards and retains many original features. With natural stone floors, exposed beamed ceilings and high quality furnishings, this is a character property with a spacious modern interior. The views from The Old Forge of St Mary’s Church are second to none and The Three Tuns Inn is just 2 minutes walk away. A couple of miles away in Weaverthorpe both The Blue Bell and The Star Inn are excellent choices for dining out, as is The Triton Inn at Sledmere. The accommodation is all on the ground floor and benefits from natural stone floors with full oil fired under floor heating throughout. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with a range of oak units and a Stainless Steel Electric Range Cooker. The Bosch appliances include Fridge/Freezer, Washer/Dryer, Dishwasher & Microwave. Denby Tableware & Le Creuset Ovenware completes the quality feel.The open plan living area features a cosy wood burning stove set in a stunning brick fireplace which was modeled on one of the 3 original curved chimneys. Relax by the fire in one of the comfortable leather sofas as you enjoy a glass of wine or a great cup of Yorkshire Tea. A DVD and video player are provided so you can make the most of the Sony Flat Screen TV and a selection of novels and board games are available for your enjoyment. If you enjoy listening to music then why not bring a few of your favorite CD’s to play on the Sony Micro system. There are two double bedrooms (1 en-suite) both with King Size beds and two twin bedrooms. The spacious family bathroom is fitted to the highest standards & contains bath with power shower over, sink, toilet & heated towel rail.The Old Forge is accessed by a wide vehicular bridge over the Gypsey Race. Outside there is private parking on a gravel drive for up to three vehicles, a small private garden with patio and garden furniture.The gardens at The Old Forge have been completely redesigned and planted by Caroline since the restoration of the building in 2008. The brick walls were built using bricks reclaimed form the original building and National Trust Polesdon Lacey copings to blend with the stone of the church wall.
