Outside Description
The enclosed garden has been landscaped with local stone and features a good sized ornamental pond, which has sadly developed a leak and is now a good sized wildlife wet area!! It is home to newts and frogs and we have had a hedgehog family in the garden in the past. Now is is private, walled and interesting with an inviting hot-tub sunk into decking from where you can see the surrounding countryside.
Downstairs Description
Xidong Cottage is a Japanese haven with a Chinese name meaning ‘Rising Sun’; an oriental retreat in the heart of Shropshire. It is converted from an old cowshed and has a private garden terraced with local stone and containing a hot tub, which can be used at any time of year. You enter through a cloakroom, with washing machine, dryer and small freezer and space for your dirty boots and wet coats. The large main room is open to the eaves and gives the feeling of space and luxury. It is decorated in a Japanese style using natural materials where possible. There is a locally made, bespoke oak table and chairs and a seating platform with futons and large cushions, which arrange into whatever comfort you desire! Large triple doors open out onto a small wooden deck and the garden with it’s hot tub. There is a modern well equipped kitchen with an extraordinary and unique curvy green glass division wall, which hides a slightly quirky but effective ‘wet’ room.
First Floor Description
A stone stairwell leads up from the living room to a little mezzanine bedroom with a low sloping ceiling. Specially made wooden dressing table and bedside tables feature as well as inset tatami mats for the Japanese feel. You do have a double divan bed to sleep on - not futons!
Windows Views Description
Stunning views of the beautiful Shropshire farmland with its green fields, sheep and cattle with every season a different scene.
Other Notes
The approach to the cottage is situated up 1/3rd mile of farm track, which is slow to negotiate, however the location makes a very safe and secluded hidaway.
