"Woodside Lodge has won a Unique Holiday Cottages Unique Retreat Award. This award winning luxury 5star gold self catering property has a stunning location, looking out onto a meadow on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You'll never want to leave this peaceful and contemporary retreat."
Woodside Lodge is an award winning secluded 5 star Gold Award luxury self catering holiday home nestled in the gardens of an 18th century cottage, five miles south of Hexham, Northumberland, with far reaching views over pastureland towards forest and fell.
It provides a peaceful and contemporary retreat ideally situated for exploring the spectacular landscape of the North Pennines AONB to the south west; to the north the Northumberland National Park, the world heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall and Kielder Water and Forest Park, and the Northumberland coast, while Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead are twenty miles east.
Believed to have started life in the 1940s as part of a temporary local army camp, the lodge was moved to its current site and used as a workshop for the restoration of vintage cars and motor cycles. Then, in 2013, it underwent a radical transformation into a luxury self-catering holiday cottage; the original structure is still in place beneath 21st century insulation, recycled rubber roof tiles and sustainably sourced larch cladding.
Woodside Lodge has been awarded Gold in 'best self catering property' in the 2016 NE England Tourism Awards, and silver in the Northumberland Tourism Awards 2017
