Comfortable Self-catering Cottages by the banks of the River Tweed West Ord is a 470 acre farm with six suberb self-catering holiday cottages, located in an idyllic setting on the banks of the River Tweed, just three miles west of the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, in Northumberland, and offering fishing with along with unique accommodation.

Within ten minutes drive of our cosy cottages, you can have access to miles of stunning sandy Northumbrian beaches, Cocklawburn Beach is on our doorstep, The Holy Island of Lindisfarne a ten minute drive, Bamburgh and the Farne Islands half an hours drive away and to the north of Berwick-upon-Tweed the fabulous rocky cliffs and promontories that are St.Abb's Head, Coldingham Bay and Eyemouth.

Geary Shiel is one of two of our riverside holiday cottages that was used by the famous "nets men" when the Tweed was fished by salmon cobbles....traditional rowing boats that cast out nets in order to catch large numbers of salmon as they passed up the Tweed. Those days are gone due to conservation measures, but it is still an idyllic spot to stand and fish with a rod should that be your desire, and if you don't wish to fish it is still an idyllic spot!

These Shiels (a local name for a bothy) are rustic and full of charm, while still offering every convenience you could wish for to make your stay truly comfortable.

All the holiday cottage accommodation is on the ground floor.

The living room was the original "Shiel" and has exposed stone walls, and large fireplace with a log burner, and a large very good quality sofa bed, which makes up part of the sleeping arrangement if the cottage is required for four people.

There is a kitchen area with dishwasher, washer/drier, fridge with small freezer compartment, and a full cooker and separate microwave. Dinning table and chairs and other full comfort easy chairs complete the cosy ambience.

We were given planning permission to add a bedroom and shower room, as these "shiels" are of high historical importance. The bed room is large and has twin beds that can zip together to create a super king sized double bed as an alternative.

The shower room has wash hand basin, toilet and shower cubicle.

Heating in the cottage is provided by storage heating and the log burner.

Sorry but we don't allow dogs in this cottage.
